power path questions

Hi All,
We have the following configuration : hpux11.24 with Oracle 10G ASM, EMC Powerpath.
I am not familiar with this power path, I wanted to know how this work. Does it changes the names of the disks/logical volumes/volume groups?

Re: power path questions

Shalom,

Powerpath is supposed to provide a second path to all disks, plus the ability to load balance, if there are two HBA cards connected to the disk.

I'm not aware of it changing the names of disks or volume groups.

Re: power path questions

EMC Powerpath provides redundancy and load balancing, it will not change any disk name. you can use powermt display to see the disk names. visit powerlink.emc.com and create a login to download powerpath admin guide.

Re: power path questions

Hi All,
Thanks for your answers.
I'm still curious about the way the powerpath monitors the paths of disks, since they can change due to a reboot.
Does anyone here knows how it recognizes the devices?
Does it rely on some special id of the storage itself? such as Disk hardware path or the major/minor versions?

Thanks,
Anat.
