scsi_mi: Unable to set EXCLUSIVE mode: Device busy

I have received this error when attempting to mediainit a SYMM attached disk. I am attempting to scrub the data disks so that I can return it to the vendor.

There are no logical volumes or volume groups on the disk. I've also done a pvremove on the device as well. EMC's Powerpath has been disabled. lsof shows no open connections to these devices.

What problem am I seeing?

Was this disk part of a SeriveGuard Cluster?
If so, It could be that another node is using the disk. Not just the one you are one.

I Tried, Hope it helps.

Re: scsi_mi: Unable to set EXCLUSIVE mode: Device busy

In the past (during the 9.x era) mediainit does make a reference to /etc/fstab file (/etc/checklist file then) and if the device path (in your case the lvol path) is still in there, it'll failed. If the entries are still in the file, remove it, reboot and try the mediainit command again.

This might not be applicable anymore.

The system isn't running any type of clustering. The disks are dual pathed, but I've removed the device files with rmsf -H and there are no further references to the disks in /etc....
