snapshot or snapclone

As a backup strategy we want to create a restore point of one volume disk we have.
the restore point will be each day at 12:00 in the day.
I want to know what anyone advise to do? an on-demand snapshot everyday? or an allocated snapshot everyday? or a snapclone everyday?

Re: snapshot or snapclone

Simon,
the EVA does not support a 'snapback' from a snapshot today, so it does not make sense to use a snapshot for a 'fast restore'.

Even if you make a full copy from the snapshot to it's original volume, you would cause a lot of data being copied, because you are overwriting original blocks with the snapshot's contents.

So a snapclone is the only meaningful technology, IMO.

But there is more thought necessary than just deciding on the snapshot/clone type: what data is on the volume? Is it a database? Can you live with a 'crash-consistent' copy?

Re: snapshot or snapclone

if you have an EVA 4/6/8000, speak with your HP representative, there are some new features coming soon that may be more suited to what you are trying to accomplish.
