storage solution

Our company got downsized we are looking to consolidate our servers. Currently we are using EMC symmetrix hooked up to some our hp servers, NT and AS400. We will not be having any more requirement of AS 400 and NT storage in EMC.

I am looking for a simple solution to hook up maximum of six HP 9000 servers with about MAX
500 GB disk requirement with RAID and Dual controllers.

I am in touch with some resellers they are all suggeting me that minimum I can go is Virtual Array 7410 which costs $140,000 over 3 years.

Any one out there give me some suggestions. I appreciate your help.

Thanks

Re: storage solution

If you can afford it, go with HP storage for HP-UX servers. Though more expensive, the primary reasoning is that if there is a problem, you call the same hardware support center to fix it as you do when a HP-9000 server goes down.

Its nice to have one vendor responsible for the whole setup. HP is really good at taking responsibility.

As far as storage goes, have you considered just adding disks to your EMC array. There is nothing wrong with EMC. If its full you can upgrade it to larger disks, depending on the model itself.

If you can't afford HP, Xiotech, a Seagate subsidiary has a pretty nice disk array called the Magnitude. It has a Brocade fabric switch built in and is pretty upgradeable.

Re: storage solution

Hi Raji,

If you have the EMC - hp servers setup working, why you need to change?.

Well if you want to reduce the cost of operation, then try checking with vendor's for upgrade or buy-back. they'll take your old equipments and give new for less cost.

If you are not cost concious, then go for hp. It will give you peace of mind, as single point of contact for support.

Re: storage solution

If you look at the 7410 I'd also be tempted to look at the HDS 95xx V range - obviously not HP (so all Steven's comments about support are valid), but very competitive price wise, and scales well.
