va7400 controller failed, a little bit weird.

dear all,
i've got a va7400's two hard disk warning, and i could not discover the va7400 from os. and then someone told me that the controller 1 was failed after he checked the log. after i replaced the controller 1, i got such armdsp and logprn output in attached file. in such circumstance, would pulling out the two failed disks clean the failed status of the enclosure M? and, would it do something bad to the array if i pull out the two failed disk? are these two disks really failed? (someone interprete that they are not failed indeed)

thanks a lot

Re: va7400 controller failed, a little bit weird.

Your array is not in a good condition.

Battery:

WARNING: The batteries that backup NVRAM in the array controllers have been depleted to the point where removing power from the controller may cause data loss.

==> replace the battery

disk:

WARNING: A physical drive has failed, failed initialization, been downed or is in the previously used state

Disk at M/D3:
Status:_______________________________Failed

Disk at M/D11:
Status:_______________________________Failed

firmware:

Product Revision:_____________________HP19

==> could be HP22

commandview:

Software Revision:______________________01.07.00 - 0256 - 030925

==> could be 01.09.02

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: va7400 controller failed, a little bit weird.

hi Torsten,
1,the battery is being charged.
2,i just want to know if i pull out those two failed disks, would it do harm to the array.
3,it seems i don't need to upgrade the firmware to HP19, cause i saw many va7400 running under firmware HP19 perform well
4,as to commandview, i don't care about it cause it is just a software.

thank you for your reply

Re: va7400 controller failed, a little bit weird.

1) watch the status of your battery
2) because the status is already failed, these disks are no longer in use (replace them 1 at a time)
3) the firmware does not only affect the performance, but also the error handling and diagnostics
(all is improved in the later versions)
4) diagnostic capabilities and other new features depend on the CV SDM version

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: va7400 controller failed, a little bit weird.

you could read that the enclosure at M's status was failed, so, is it caused by the failed status of those two failed disks? would it become ok if i pull out those two failed disk?

Solution

Re: va7400 controller failed, a little bit weird.

The status will not become ready if the battery warning remains.

Hope this helps!
