va7410 non redundant disk access

I put in this va7410 just a few weeks ago and from the beginning the leftmost drive on the first unit (with the controllers) has an orange light on. armdsp gives the warning about a single path of access.

Also, my alternative paths don't show up when I use sam to look at my volume groups.

Armdsp -a says that the controllers are ok and the drives are all ok.

I've looked at my fiber and I'm 99% sure I have it wired up correctly. I traded out the fiber for another (each in turn) and no change there so I don't think it is a bad fiber.

RG1 shows up with 16 disks and RG2 shows 14 disks, so all disks are accounted for (although somewhat lopsided, is that normal?)

I have tried swapping out the amber-lighted disk and that didn't make any difference: after everything settled down I was back to the same state.

This hardware was in replacement of a va7100 and is used.. so who knows if the configuration is tweaked somehow.

Where should I start?

looks like one controller could have failed. pls run the 'armdsp -a ' command to get the array status. array-id can be obtained from the 'armdsp -i' command.

what i meant was the controller of the disk enclosure. please assign some points if the info is helpful.

if you still not able to find out the problem, you may run the logprn command to gather the logs from the va to investigate. the command is :

#logprn -a -s mmddhhMM[yyyy] -t all -v

the start date should be the date before you think the problem started.

I've already got the 'armdsp -a' and it shows that everything is good... except for the last line that says

WARNING: The configuration of the subsystem is such that one or more drives has only a single path of access to it.


and that one drive has an orange indicator on it.

I'm starting to think one of my I/O cards or cables must be bad. Is there a simple configuration change that might have an impact on the single-path issue?

Have you tried removing the disk M/D1 ?
This could be the disk only have a single path accessing to it from only one of the controllers.
