we have 12H diskarray with disks size 18G. there was disk failure last time ,and i replaced a 9G disk from other retired array.
and it always display " no hot space message"
today, i find a 18G disk and i simply move the 9G out and replace this 18G disk. the new disk is included, but array display the following message "- Redundancy Loss
- Missing Disk"
do you know how can fix this, many thanks.

SolutionThe array included the new disk as it normally would, but it thinks the original disk you removed should still be there.
"The following disk is reported MISSING by the controller:
Vendor = SEAGATE
Product ID = ST19171N
Capacity = 8683 MB *
Max. block addr = 17783111
Block length = 512
Serial number = LAE88644
Disk ID number = D64C 6
Volume set serial no. = 6BF2 1A"
What you need to do is try to get this original disk back included in the array. Then once this is done the array should go READY. You can then down the disk using the front panel or the arm commands. Add the 18GB module after that and your array should be back in READY mode with all of the drives intact.
In the end if you cannot get the array to recognize the missing disk you will have to reformat the array, resulting in the need to rebuild your LUNs and data.
When replacing disks in the 12H you should always be patient and allow the controller to finish any rebuild operation before adding a replacement disk.

Re: warning message in 12H
at the time of your first post the array was busy and rebuilding:
The array is REBUILDING and is 75% complete
How about the status now? I assume the rebuild is finished.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: warning message in 12H
Try to exclude the 18gb adn replace it with the 9gb. You will get the same error as you did the first time. Before you down the 9gb, be sure the array rebuild status is complete. Exclude the 9gb, then re-add the 18gb and with your fingers crossed the array should go READY.
