Solution
Transparent failover (TF) only protects against the failure of a single controller. One controller presents units across Port_1, the other across Port_2. The other port of each controller is inactive. When a controller fails, this port becomes active and assumes the WWPN of the other controller's active port.
TF was only meant for operating systems without a multipath solution (e.g. Tru64 Unix version 4).
In multibus failover, all units are presented through all 4 cotnroller ports (assuming the LUN masking is set correctly, of course). A multipath-capable host can fail over between the paths.
