Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

xp512 with IBM DS4800 connectivity

hello all, is it possible to connect xp512 with direct attached servers ,to a SAN where an IBM DS4800 array is also connected?
i want to attach luns belonging to the ibm array to the xp servers (the point is that these servers are also with only one fc hba).
Thanks !!

Re: xp512 with IBM DS4800 connectivity

This is definitely not supported.

It is hardly impossible to find HBA settings, BIOS, FW etc. that match both arrays requirements.
And, what happens if you encounter errors? Neither IBM nor HP tested interoperability and can give you support.

So, do not do it!
Get yourself another HBA!

Thanks a lot Pete.
One more question please. what happens if xp ds & servers(one fc hba still) are connected to the same switch. Will i still have problems?

Re: xp512 with IBM DS4800 connectivity

Exactly the same as I stated above!

Each storage and its FC ports have unique behaviors and could influence each other directly or at least the HBA.

So buy yourself anothe HBA; if you are short of PCI slots, buy a dual port FC HBA. But then make sure that this dual port HBA is supported by XP512 and DS4800!!
