Re: D2D4112 Replication and Deduplication impact by doing only full backups
Hi Jose,
I strongly suggest you read the "D2D Best Practices for VTL NAS and Replication Implementations" document which can be found here:
This contains lots of useful information on how to get the best performance and deduplication ratio from your D2D backup system.
In your specific case I would recommend that you:
1. Create a specific retention requirement for your business, rather than overwriting only when all cartridges are full.
2. Do not append data to cartridges, i.e. make media non-appendable.
When the retention period expires media with backups on will be overwritten, so in the steady state your dedupe ratio will effectively stabilise to a fairly static level as you will always have the same amount of full backups. This creates a predictable and managable configuration.
Best Regards
Dan
