Solution
The VLS12000 is an storage virtualization gateway. You assign space from one or several EVAs to it, and it uses it to create vitual tape cartridges and libraries which are presented through fiber channel ports.
It consists on a minimum of 2 nodes (Proliant with a special linux version) and two LAN switches to connect the nodes between them and to the external network.
In the back there are 4 FC ports, 2 go to the EVA(s) and the other two to the backup server(s).
Then you must define the nodes as hosts on the EVA and present them some LUNs so they have space to store the virtual cartridges.
From the VLS web interface, you create virtual libraries and drives for the backup server(s).

Re: HP VLS12000 installation
Thanks,
Does HP allow end users to install it, or is a certification necessary?
