VLS6510 major issues - need help!

I have a brand new VLS6510 virtual library and am having major issues. It will not allow me to successfully update to the 1.03 firmware from 1.02. It will either sit at the waiting page for days on end, or if I do get it to accept it, it reboots, wont start VLS software, and take a manual shutdown. Then it comes back up on 1.02. I have tried the restore cd already and no luck.

I ALSO cannot create a virtual library. If I click on the option it sits there waiting forever, and never comes up with any errors, the create page, etc.

Any thoughts?

Re: VLS6510 major issues - need help!

UPDATE: When I am able to get the firmware to update, it successfully updates (or so it appears) but upon rebooting, the kernels no longer work. I get kernel panics. It appears to be related to the seeing the disks/controllers.

After a re-image of the system, I am still unable to create a virtual library... it just sits idle, or takes me back to the main screen for the enclosure (where you can setup oversubscription).

ANY thoughts?

I'm not sure why you are having the problems you are describing right now, but can I suggest that you try updating with the 1.0.13 patch and see if that resolves your issues? If it doesn't, then please make another posting and we'll get you some help.

Re: VLS6510 major issues - need help!

I have tried to upgrade to the 1.03 firmware several times now. When I get the webpage to actually respond, I can successfully upgrade to 1.03. Upon reboot after the update, I cannot boot the default kernel. I get kernel panics. If I try the up/safe kernel, it begins to boot, however fails when trying to access the disks. I have to do a restore from cd to 1.02 to access the array again. Now back at 1.02, I am now able to get the create library wizard, and it is all responsive and fine during the wizard portion, however at the end when I click, "create library" it sits and does nothing. Minutes, hours, etc. I then refresh and try again, with the same results.

Re: VLS6510 major issues - need help!

Adam,

The current firmware version is 1.0.13 (not 1.03).

Can you clarify which versions you have been trying to install?

The 1.0.13 firmware was released on April 24th.

If the firmware does not resolve it, we'd recommend opening a support case with HP to look at a potenital hardware issue.
The journey IS the reward.

Re: VLS6510 major issues - need help!

I apologize, yes, it is 1.0.13. I have tried to download it twice and update over 5 times from different pcs. Every time it either hangs forever (days) and never refreshes. If I manually refresh the browser all progress is gone. If it takes it goes through the operation rather fast and normal, but upon reboot it gets kernel panics. I am unable to boot any of the 3 kernels. I have to do a restore from cd to bring it back to 1.0.12.

At 1.0.12 I cannot create a virtual library either. It either does a simular timeout forever, or if it goes through the wizard at the end when I click create library it hangs and has yet to respond. I have tried this over 10 times.

Who would I contact to open a support ticket ?

Re: VLS6510 major issues - need help!

Here is my notes after the firmware update. Again once firmware is done it kernel panics on a controller for storage. Also probably why I cannot create virtual libraries.

Note about half way down the line:
