146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
The ds2405 is working fine, but when inserting the 146 HDDs, they cannot be initialized.

Re: 146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
how about the "auto include" setting?
What firmware version is on the VA?
And of cause, the drive type must be a supported one.
Please check also the DS2405 DIP switch settings (2GB/s speed) and insert only one disk at a time.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: 146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
1. I used Command View SDM v1.08
2. I have to verify the firmware of VA7110 next Mon.
3. I tried to include the drive manually, but failed.
4. The ds2405 was set by 2GB.
5. The 146GB is the right part number supported by VA7110.
6. I had tried to insert only one disk but it still did not work.
7. If only power on the ds2405 the 146GB HDD, everything looking good, but after power on the VA7110 the 146GB HDD of ds2405 going to fail state.
8. And I tried to replace the 72GB HDDs of VA7110 to 146GB HDDs, the 146GB HDD still failed.
9. The VA7110 is oredered this year, not old one.
God help me, the EVA is much better than VA series.

Re: 146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
Did you first switched off the array, then insert the disk and in last step powered on the VA?
I assume this because of our last post.
THIS CANNOT WORK.
The array have to be aware of any changes. So insert the drives while the array is up and online.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: 146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
Set both switches to 1 for the first and to 2 for the second DS2405!
For more information on how to upgrade a VA see the "VA user and service guide" page 132 ff on

Re: 146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
2. I added the 146GB HDDs while the VA7110 is online without any warnings and errors.
3. The address switch is set correctly, there was only one DS2405 attached to VA7110.
And the address switch wan in 1 position.

Re: 146GB initializing fail on DS2405 of VA7110
Does the va recognise your new enclosure?
There is a unrealistic chance you have only A000 firmware on the array.
And there is a small chance that the 146GB drives doesn't have the minimum required firmware level. You'll find the firmware in the "download software & drivers" section for the DS2405.
You can check if the disks are ok and check the firmware by connecting the DS2405 directly to the system, not to the va.
But be aware of *unwanted* device files in your OS! Don't do this if you are in doubt!
Use command view sdm to check the disks level.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
