2nd fibre channel need and configure alternate link

Hi,

Currently, we do have one Hitachi Storage system and one hp rx7600 with HP-UX 11.23 version. At the moment, only one fc adapter (HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter)was installed in rx7600.

In order to create a redundancy link to HDS, we prepare a create a HDD alternate link by plug into addition fc into system.

As my concern, how can i make it happen with the minimum risks on it. Of course, i know i have to create the alternate HDD link one by one after the fc adapter is installed in rx7600.

Is anyone do this before?

once the HBA is installed and connected, you may run "vgscan" in preview mode to get an idea.

Currently, there is one fc connected to SAN storage. My concern is after the 2nd card be installed, all of HDD link will be appeared while i am doing ioscan -funC disk. By this time, i can install those HDD drive manually as ioscan -H

Do these action might corrupted the existing files system ?

All new device files for the new HBA will be created while the server boots up.
The "old" device files will not change.
The system will create another path to the existing LUNs only.

Once the second path to the array is available, you should alter the HBAs for primary links, like this

HBA A primary for vg01, HBA B alternate
HBA B primary for vg02, HBA A alternate
...

This will increase your performance
