5300 and Windows 2000 = Not Scaleable

After buying into the hype about scaleability and high end controllers I finally have put Compaq to the test and they have failed me. Real world situation - RAID 5 Array with 6 18GB Ultra3 Drives with Hot Spare. Windows 2000 Server installed. Our data volume is running out of space. Ordered 2 - 18GB Ultra3's to increase the array capacity and expand the data volume. Compaq's Suggested Method for adding drives - back up server. Delete Server. Delete current array configuration. Create a new array with 1 logical drive that contains all the existing and new drives. Re-install operating system. Restore Windows 2000 and data. Forgive me if I am wrong - but, where the he@% does scaleability come into play? Has anyone else had a similar situation with an alternative workaround?

Hi...

What about using 2k's dynamic disks to increase your partition size..... just a thought.... you could add your extra disks.. create a new partition... change it to dynamic and add to existing partition...
