5314 Enclosure Upgrade to 5314A for EVA 5000->8000 migration

What upgrades are available to upgrade a 5314 to a 5314A?
We are planning an EVA 5000 -> 8000 upgrade. Both arrays will be side by side on the same SAN for a temporary period while data migration takes place, MPIO installs, etc. Once we migrate the initial data we plan to *move 6 of the 12 EVA 5000's 5314 enclosures* over to the 8000. BUT, the new EVA8000 has 5314A enclosures. What are the part numbers to upgrade teh 5314 to a 5314A (IO module? do we need to swap out the EMU modules as well? What other upgrades are required?).

thanks in advance!

I'm not sure an upgrade is possible. The EVA quickspecs do not mention such a thing at all and I've never heard of it being done. You might be able to work out a special deal with your HP Service engineer, but there doesn't appear to be a 'canned' solution for this.

As I understand, you can buy
AD623A HP M5314A FC IO-A Module
AD624A HP M5314A FC IO-B Module
AD625A HP M5314A E.M.U. Module

The upgrade is possible, replace the parts that Basil suggested

Re: 5314 Enclosure Upgrade to 5314A for EVA 5000->8000 migration

An update and a question. The recommended 5314A I/O modules + EMU have been ordered and delivered. We are approaching the point of removing the old 5314 shelves from the EVA 5000 and installing 6 of the shelves the existing (and in production) EVA 8000 enclosure.

1. What needs to be done to the old disks slated for migration? We removed the 146GB FC disks from the EVA 5000 disk group (now ungrouped)?
2. Will there be an issue with the EVA 8000 recognizing disks from the EVA 5000?
3. Are there other risks, cabling implications, etc. before the shelf move?

thanks in advance,

Lyndon

Re: 5314 Enclosure Upgrade to 5314A for EVA 5000->8000 migration

1.) Sounds like the EVA5000 is no longer in use? Make sure the firmware of the disk drives to be moved is current, before you plug them to the EVA-8000. You can do it on the 8000 as well, but why mess with a production system more than necessary?

2.) Put the old disks into the new system while it is running - that makes sure the EVA8000 does not pick up only old potential meta data, if that risk even exists.

3.) I don't see a risk during removal as long as no grouped disk is in one of the shelves. If possible, I would do the module upgrade on the EVA-5000 first and test it out first.

On the EVA-8000, make sure you properly connect the shelves - I have seen a warning that array operation can be disrupted if a loop pair is connected to a wrong loop switch.
