A3515A AutoRAID not accepting disks

I received a A3515A AutoRAID system from another group where I work. It had 2GB and 4.3GB drives. I removed all the drives and purchased new 9.1GB HP Seagate drives from a HP reseller. 2 of the drives error. All the other drives have firmware of 0352 and 4254. The 2 drives that error have firmware of 6311 and 6702. I guess I have to replace those 2 drives with the ealier firmware.
Should all drives be at the same firmware level? What happens if I have to replace a drive and cannot locate one with the same firmware level?

The A3515A is a Model 12 rather than a Model 12H AutoRAID; I'm all but certain that the Model 12 never supported a disk larger than 4.3 GiB. (The 12H supported up to 36.4 GiB drives.) I've always found the AutoRAID's to be very tolerant of drive firmware but you must make certain that the right kind of drive is used. Both the 12 and 12H uses SE-SCSI drives --- although there was a translator board in each disk module that might convert the expected SE-SCSI that the array expected to something else that the drive itself expected.

The drives are SE SCSI (yellow tag). The system seems to accept the 9GB drives but I do not have it connected to a server yet. I sure hope they are not "seen" as 4.3GB drives.

Check that you are using the same kind of disks that are in it, or find the docs at http://docs.hp.com

Also, check the scsi id's are all unique and that all scsi is properly terminated.

The termination is external to the drive and the SCSI ID is determined by the slot. The bad news is thats partsurfer.hp.com shows only 2.1GiB and 4.3GiB disk modules for the Model 12. If you need more disk capacity, you could easily get more in a single drive than the Model 12 will support.
