Adding four 18GB Disk to A3312A (HASS) that has four 9GB disks

Can i add new A5286A (18gb)disk drives to an existing A3312A HASS storage enclosure. Will it allow me to mix 18GB and 9GB within. Will the 18's simply resort to lowest common Denominator and appear as 9's. I've searched for older documentation...but am coming up with nothing.

Hi,

Yes, this will work. Make sure sure that you follow this information. You will end up seeing 18Gb disks as long as you don't add them to a volume group that already has 9Gb or less drives as the first drive (assuming your using HPUX) or you can create a new volume group.

Make sure that you don't have any SCSI conflicts. Don't place any of the 18Gb disks on the same bus. This may cause a problem.
To see the disks after installation, there are
two ways. You could run 'ioscan -fn' and the
disks should appear, or use SAM. To create the
device from the command line:

# cd /dev
# insf -e
in SAM -->Disks & Filesystems --> Disk devices
--> Actions --> Diagnose Missing Disk

Indivisual disk modules with different rpm and capacity can be mixed within the enclosure.
Please set DIP switch at the back of the box before installation to prevent SCSI conflict.
