Advanced Features
Hi,
We have a Compaq Proliant 5500 with a Smart Array 4200 Raid Controller. When viewing the Advanced Features section with ACU I receive the following message:
(15621) You cannot modify the write cache status of any drive, because either there are no drives attached to the controller or none of the drives attached to the controller have a reliable write cache. I have run ADU and it has detected no errors. Data is present on all of the drives, we have noticed this error whilst trying to investigate some performance issues. Does anyone know what is causing this message? The array configuration is as follows
Logical Drive 1:
This Logical Drive: 2 (excluding spare drives)
Fault Tolerance Mode: Mirroring
Array Accelerator is enabled for this logical drive.
Logical Drive 2:
This Logical Drive: 3 (excluding spare drives)
Fault Tolerance Mode: Distributed Data Guard (RAID 5)
Array Accelerator is enabled for this logical drive.
Logical Drive 3:
This Logical Drive: 3 (excluding spare drives)
Fault Tolerance Mode: Distributed Data Guard (RAID 5)
Array Accelerator is enabled for this logical drive.
Logical Drive 4:
This Logical Drive: 3 (excluding spare drives)
Fault Tolerance Mode: Distributed Data Guard (RAID 5)
Array Accelerator is enabled for this logical drive.

Re: Advanced Features
Are you using Compaq drives? We do not allow write caching on Compaq (HP) branded drives. If these are 3rd party drives, that might be the source of the problem. You would need to use a 3rd party tool to set drive caching.

Re: Advanced Features
We are using Compaq Drives, would you expect to see error messages if you are using Compaq Drives?
