Alternate procedure to shutdown one controller in EVA4400

Hi All,

Does anyone know an alternate procedure to shutdown one of the controller of EVA4400 apart from CVEVA.

The power button on the rear end of the controller is for the whole enclosure. We cannot power down one controller from it.
So is there any way to power it off through WOCP?

One of my customer has informed that he can see a shutdown option in WOCP, however that too will shutdown both the controllers of the EVA.

Anyone for assistance.

Thank you.

Hello,

you can restart a controller through the WOCP, but you can't shutdown one of them. Only the whole system.

Take a look into the WOCP User Guide:

Why do you need to shutdown one controller?

Re: Alternate procedure to shutdown one controller in EVA4400

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your response and thank you for the document as well.

Since using OCP in all the EVAs, except EVA4400, you have the option to stop/shutdown one controller, why isnt this feature integrated in WOCP.

Also the WOCP should atleast have had the feature which is there in OCP.

For me, this issue arrived when one of the controller needed a replacement and the access to EVA through CVEVA was, for some reason not possible.
So for replacing the controller the whole EVA needs to be rebooted, in this senario.

Rebooting the management server and restarting the CVEVA service did not help.

Hello,

so you still can't manage the EVA through Command View EVA? What is the exact problem with CV?

Re: Alternate procedure to shutdown one controller in EVA4400

If the EVA-4400/WOCP firmware is recent enough, you can access a version of CV-EVA on the WOCP. The "Storage system properties" page has a [Shut down] button. From there you can HALT a controller, but it says that the power is kept on.

Each "Controller Properties" page in the \Hardware tree has a [Shut down] button, too. (at least on version 9.0).
I did not press it so see the next dialogs...

If nothing helps (e.g. master controller or internal communication got lost), you do have to pull the controller or have somebody from HP do it...
