Array 431 Controller

we have a Raid5 (4drives) attached to a 431 controller. Today Server froze and after power off and on i get error message 1788.
Question is - if i press F2 - are all Data loss or only the configuration is lost and the array will reload the raid5 again by the next start ?

Re: Array 431 Controller

According to the manual you will have data loss if you press F2

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00300504/c00300504.pdf

It seem to me, that you could have more that 1 drive failed.

Try to power down the server again.
Reseat all drives.
Power on.

If it still doesn't work.
Press F1
Boot from smart start CD, if you can then from USB mem stick.
From the maintenance tab run the ACU.
Check whts wrong.

The post error do tell you wich drives are having trouble.

I would be carefull before pressing F2.

Re: Array 431 Controller

If configuration is lost.
Then I don't know any tools, that can restore config and use RAID again.
So you will need to send the disks to a recovery service company.

Re: Array 431 Controller

Thank you... we have done all these... ACU say drive 3 and 4 are out of.. so i thnk we have lost the raid 5.
Only chance is to give it to an very expensive data recovery service - i know.

but Thank you very much for your help !

Re: Array 431 Controller

Bad luck.

If reseating 3 and 4 don't get them back. then you're out of luck.

But if you get green light on at least 3 drives, then you can re-enable the disabled logical drives.
If not from the prompt, then at least from the ACU.
