Array accelerator vs Drive Write Cache on P410i (DL580 G7)

Hello.

I'm newbie on this forum and need your help.

I work with P410i controller but don't understand the difference between the Array Accelerator on the logical device and the Drive Write cache on the Controller.

Can I use Accelerator without drive write cache ?

Someone can help me ?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Array accelerator vs Drive Write Cache on P410i (DL580 G7)

The cache memory module of the smartarray controller is also known as Array Accelerator.

Some features are available only with the module installed, see

Hope this helps!

Re: Array accelerator vs Drive Write Cache on P410i (DL580 G7)

Thanks for your response.

Can you confirm me if the option "array accelerator" works alone. Must I active the option "Drive Write Cache" to use the array accelerator ?

I understood the "Drive Write Cache" is the physical drive cache and not the controller cache and the array accelerator is the controller cache.  Correct me if I'm wrong ?

Re: Array accelerator vs Drive Write Cache on P410i (DL580 G7)

Thanks a lot.

So,  this white paper confirm my understanding, the "Drive write cache" is the physical drive cache and the array accelerator is the controller cache.

Re: Array accelerator vs Drive Write Cache on P410i (DL580 G7)

The first question was not really clear. As you know now, you can enable the cache on the disk drives itself, but this cache is NOT protected!

Hope this helps!

Re: Array accelerator vs Drive Write Cache on P410i (DL580 G7)

In the facts, I don't want to active the drive write cache.

I lost a battery on my controller few days ago. After replace and charge the Array accelerator board,  I suspect the server don't use the cache (low performance), so I tried to understand if the drive write cache is not implicated.
