AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

Is there an option to upgrade these 9.1 gb SE HD to something with more substance.
We have two of these boxes with the 9.1HD that were not using because 54gb space is just to small.

Thanks Mike.

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

Mike,

The largest available disk for these devices is 36GB.

The product number is:

A6518A 36.4GB disk drive module 10K RPM S/E

*Must have all three fan modules (A3709B)

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

Mike,

Yes. The AutoRAID Model 12H can have up to 12 36GB Modules. It also has the capacity for three fans and three power supplies. I thought the (3)fans were standard and the third power supply was optional, however, that's what the pricing guide said. Just be sure that you have three fans.

By the way, the product number may be A5292A for the 36GB module, that's what's listed on my support contract.

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

I've checked both units and they have three fans, dual power and dual RAID cards.

So I'm all set to upgrade.

Cool.

Thanks very much for your help.

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

Mike,

You're welcome. One note, if you're placing these devices in a critical environment, adding the third power supply is a good idea. It allows for a power supply failure without the array going down.

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

Actually there not even plugged in. And looking at the price of the 36gb $4275.
Part number A6518-60050 on HP's web site.

Looks like we won't be plugging them in anytime soon.

I must be reading the site wrong.

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

Actually the rule is that you must have three of the hi-speed fan modules for any of the 10K RPM drives. The way that you can tell if you already have the newer hi-speed fans is to look at the little fan labels on the drive. On the older, lo-speed modules the little fan labels are flat while on the newer, hi-speed modules the little fans are raised bubbles.

You have the option of either 18GB or 36GB disk modules. I suggest that you search the used equipment dealers. You can typically find a complete 12H for very reasonable prices.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hello,

Follow this guide to install the 36Gb disks:

http://h200004.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg28372/lpg28372.pdf

You need also a firmware upgrade to at least HP54.

Re: AutoRAID 12H Upgrade HD to 72GB?

That pricing looks pretty high. Full list on a single A6518 in April was $3100, but they're available from FRD (refurb) for _much_ less. I recently bought a FRD L2000 from HP in which a 5-pack of 18Gb disks for the 12H was less than $800 (all 5 disks). That's a very heavy discount, but I suspect you can get to 72Gb in your 12H for well under $2K. FRD comes with full warranty and can be purchased with pre-paid support just like new equipment.
