AutoRaid with Oracle Databases

Looking for any information in relation to using AutoRaid with Oracle databases
that are more write oriented than read oriented. Looking for Pros and Cons.

Re: AutoRaid with Oracle Databases

For best performance use the Autoraid with 4 to 6 LUNS and split the luns
evenly between the controllers using LVM, setting up primary and alternate
paths. With a write intensive database performance is improved if you leave
some space unallocated and not assigned to a lun.

Re: AutoRaid with Oracle Databases

The primary reasons to consider the autoraid is the controller cache and raid.
The Model 12H has 96MB RAM for cache, this will beenfit the I/O to disk.

The autoraid is going to provide you with data strong data protection.

Re: AutoRaid with Oracle Databases

Hi,

It's believed that RAID 0/1 is good for oracle database.

To acheive this on autoraid we shoul leave more unallocated space for the controller to use for RAID 0/1

Re: AutoRaid with Oracle Databases

We use an AutoRAID 12H with Oracle 8. In our situation the Oracle is mainly read instead of write. The full redo-log files for the Oracle are active and are also on the AutoRAID. It seems this is limiting the performance of the autoraid since the SCSI-queues are always much larger than should be.
