Business Copy and VA7400

I would like to know how to do a business copy on a VA7400 and would also like to know how to mount the BC on a HP-UX system. Also, if you have got a BC mounted on a HP-UX system and you copy data to that BC will it reflect on the LUN after you have done a copy to parent, and if you lose the logical volume on the system the LUN was on, how to restore from BC and replace LUN,logical volume.

Re: Business Copy and VA7400

Too many questions for one post :o)
1. how to do BC?
install Business Copy VA software, install appropriate BC license and you can do BCs using GUI (graphical user interface) or from command line (for example, in scripts). Please remember: Business Copy is fast copy operation, but not 'online': you should force applications to flush all data to VA parent LUN before creating BC LUN (for databases - close database [in case database dos not support onlibe backuping], for file systems - unmount and deactivate VG);
2. how to mount BC LUN?
if mounting to another hosts - no problems. Create BC LUN and then vgimport. A little different for importing to the same host. You can not inport it 'drectly' because BC LUN has the same 'signature' as parent one. You need to change its signature with vgchgid and only then you can vgimport it;
3. BC is not for backing up information to it. BC is to make backup to the tape while parent LUN is active. Thus normally you should restore from tape, MO or another device, not from BC.
