I have heard people talking about "Business Copy".
Is it a name of the product or technology ?
Thanks,

Re: Business Copy
Functionality depends on the storage hardware.
Principally it is making a copy of an existing LUN.
So you can duplicate the data device of your database for testing - just an example.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Business Copy
There will be products with different names from different vendors which will perform the functionality that HP Business copy makes.
IBM - Flashcopy
Netapp - SnapClone

Re: Business Copy
We're specifying an EVA-4000. Business copy is a feature that permits us to create an instant delta or change on a portion of the disk, permitting us to take backups in seconds.

Re: Business Copy
Business Copy is the name of the functionality built into the VA, EVA and XP Storage Arrays that aside for "making a copy" of a LUN... allows direct access to data with minimal impact to performance and with minimal downtime to your data. BC allows for automated local data replication (the snapclone process) of data, easy management of replicated data and simple local data restoration.

Re: Business Copy
Features:
├в ┬в Business critical data can be executed in parallel to enhance efficiency and cost effectiveness.
├в ┬в Instantly creating point in time copies of source LUNs, scheduling backup activities, and maintaining I/O Host performance because all LUN creation and activity is handled directly by the array.

Re: Business Copy
business copy is the name of feature that allows local copies in eva. it licenced and gives the abilities to take snapclone and snapshot of vdisks. Snapclone is the point-in-time independent copy of a vdisk. Because all data is copied from the source disk. and snapclone can be created in different disk group than the source.Snapshot is depented, point-in-time copy of a vdisk. Data is not copied to snapshot, Just pointers to data in vdisk is created. if data changes after taking the snapshot, point-in-time data is copied to snapshot. There two types of snapshot: Demand Allocated and Fully Allocated. Demand allocated does not allocate space as source vdisk, but fully allocated allocates the exact space. Snapshot is created in the disk group of source vdisk. Snapshot's raid level must be the same level or lower( raid 1 > raid 5 > raid 0). if demand allocated snapshot does not have enough space when growing, eva stops writing both to snapshot and the source.
Generally snapclone is used for testing, data mining etc., snapshot is used for temporary needs like back up. With snapshot you don't need to stop database for backing up i.e.

Re: Business Copy
As soon as purchasing it you will find a license key that you should input it on your stotage also you can purchase a media pack for using this new ability of stotrage for replication.
