Change array drive from spare to active.
I have a ML370 G2 with a Smart Array 5300 controller running Windows 2000 Server. My array presently has 3 drives in RAID5 and 1 spare drive. I need to add the spare drive to the logical drive and expand the logical drive to incorporate the added storage space WITHOUT losing any data, and, hopefully without any down time. Can this be done? How do I do it? Thanks for the help.

Re: Change array drive from spare to active.
you can add another HDD.
use this to expand your capacity using ACU without modify your configuration, leaving your spare untouched.
bye.

Re: Change array drive from spare to active.
I'd really like to not have to buy another HDD since this server is scheduled for replacement in about 6 months. Isn't there any way to remove the spare and use it as an additional HDD on the array without losing the present data on the logical drive? Thanks.

Re: Change array drive from spare to active.
As far as I am aware under ACU you should be able to remove/delete the spare drive & then add it back into the array for the extra storage space you want without being a problem for your existing data, unless anyone knows different ?
If in doubt it is always a good idea to backup your data first....
