My company has recently bought HP StorageWorks EVA 4k, which included:
My HP StorageWorks EVA 4k includes:
My rack includes:
2,HP StorageWorks 4/8 SAN switches
1,HP StorageWorks Tape array 5300
2,HP Integrity rx2660
1,HP Proliant DL360 G5 (management server)
2,HP StorageWorks HSV200 тАУA and
1,HP HDD array 8X146.8 GB fiber channel
The complete rack is wired except for the tape array and the HDD array.
===============================================
My assignment is to configure all the components and be able to view them using the CommandView EVA.
I need help in configuration. I have powered down the rack because of some problem(beeping sound from HDD).
I was trying to reach the HP support - but failed.
===============================================
I want to power-on the rack now and currently my understanding is:
1. Start and configure the SAN Switch with EZSwitchSetup. (assign IP)
2. Start the HP rx2660 servers and assign IP to the iLO2MP.
3. Start the HP Proliant DL360 G5 and assign IP address. (Access CommandView at port 2372).
Now Questions:
Q1. How do I connect the Tape Array to the SAN network?
Q2. How do I connect the HDD to the SAN Network?
Q3. Can anyone suggest the sequence in which I should installation/configure the components?
Q4. Do I need to make the connections (Tape/HDD) before powering on the rack?
Awaiting early response.
Thanks,
Mitali

Re: Configuring HP StorageWorks EVA 4K
If you did buy startup service - wait for your ce.
Otherwise - it will depend on the current status.
First steps are either to start up the SAN
*or*
the storage ..
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionA. Connect the fiber cable between Tape Library and SAN Switch. It requires:
- NSR configuration on Tape Lib.
- SAN Switch configuration
- SAN Switch zoning for the server and Tape Lib.
Q2. How do I connect the HDD to the SAN Network?
A. Connect the fiber cable between EVA and SAN Switch. It requires:
- EVA startup configuration.
- SAN Switch zoning for the server and EVA.
Q3. Can anyone suggest the sequence in which I should installation/configure the components?
A.
1. SAN Switch
2. Server (OS and HBA drivers)
3. EVA
4. Tape Library
5. SAN Switch zoning
6. Server OS config to see EVA and tape.
Q4. Do I need to make the connections (Tape/HDD) before powering on the rack?
A. Yes, recommended.
As far as your concern over the stratup services, all the EVAs come with basic startup service and it sounds like your organization doesn't have enough expertise to complete setup efficiently, I feel other configuration services should also be bundled in purchase order. Please verify and contact your HP or reseller sales person to make the arrangements.
CE stands for Customer Engineer.
Hope that helps.

Just connect a SCSI cable between a drive in this box and the server.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Configuring HP StorageWorks EVA 4K
Q2: You need to connect the fiber ports in the proper order to the SAN switches. Since you have two then you will be creating two fiber fabrics. That means you need to connect two of the ports to one switch and the other two to the second switch. If these are not connected correctly your EVA will not function properly and could possibly not work.
Q3: You should follow the installation procedures set down by HP for the installation. Make sure to fill out the Storage Deliviery Document and send it to the HP Storage Project Manager for your region. Without this the EVA will not be properly covered for maintenance.
Q4: Yes. Make the connections first before powering up the equipment.
Installation ans seteup of an EVA and associated enviornment is a very complex undertaking that usually is done by an HP Customer Engineer or HP Partner that has an HP certified Master ASE/SAN Architect on staff to make sure t he installation is done correctly. If an EVA is installed outside of these two organizations it may not be covered by maintenance. I would highly suggest you contact HP or the HP Reseller that sold you the EVA to see when one of them will come out and install it for you.
