Connecting to a MSA 500 (G1)

Can I connect to this unit using a regular Adaptec SCSi adapter or do I need to have a Smart Array 532 Controller in my server to connect to it?

The DL380 G2 packaged cluster connects the MSA500 to the external SCSI port. By default this is not cabled to the integrated 5i.
