Continuous Access between EVA5000 (VCS 3.028) and EVA4400

Hi,

our customer plan to migrate his EVA5000 with firmware (VCS 3.028) to a EVA4400.

My question is, can our customer use Continuous Access to migrate the data from the old EVA5000 to the EVA4400 (step by step) without doing a firmware upgrade on the EVA5000?

Kind regards
Andre

Hi,
the compatibility can be checked here:
http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01494607/c01494607.pdf

and here is the CA EVA implementation guide

Hi Andre,

Continuous Access between EVA5000 and EVA4400 isn't support.

I am afraid not, according to the Quickspecs at:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11617_div/11617_div.html

- Unidirectional data migration from EVA 3000/5000 to EVA 4400 is supported using CA features
- EVA 4400 to EVA 3000/5000 replication will NOT be supported
- EVA3000/5000 firmware versions VCS 3.1xx & 4.1xx are required
- Only Synchronous mode replication supported
- Link is FC only (the expectation is the customer will be replacing a EVA3000/5000 with an EVA 4400 within the data center)

...and some more.

Hi,
EVA5000 3.028 can be upgraded to the 3.110 online without the downtime

Re: Continuous Access between EVA5000 (VCS 3.028) and EVA4400

I have just used CA 60 day isntant on to migrate a customer from 3k to 4400, all went wonderfully replicated 6.3TB in less than 8Hrs.

I decided to do some testing and setup a new vdisk on 4400 and then replicated this with CA to the 3000 which worked without a hitch. I suspect the unsupported part of the replication from 3k to 4400 is that HP will not support its functionality??

Anyone have any Ideas?
