Create RAID1 Array with only a single drive, initially?
Hello,
I'm building a new server ML350 with a Smart Array 5300. Unfortunately, I only have a single 72 GB drive right now.
Is it possible, to create a single drive Array during Smart Start, install the OS, then sometime down the road add another drive and create a hardware mirror?
Thanks,
Troy

Re: Create RAID1 Array with only a single drive, initially?
Troy,
With a single hdd, your only option is a Raid 0. Later when you get another drive you can migrate it to a Raid 1. Very easy to do with the ACU. Just create your initial array as a raid 0 with that hdd and when you purchase more hdds, you'll have the option to change your raid level.
Ciao,
Greg

Re: Create RAID1 Array with only a single drive, initially?
Greg,
So basically, I'll just use the ACU to add the new drive to the existing array, then change the raid level from RAID-10 to RAID-1?
Perfect! Thanks!

Hi Troy
Initially you will have to use Raid 0 and then migrate it to the next raid level as you get the discs
