Disk array type

Disk array type

Hi folks

This may seem like a stupid question but I've asked several colleagues and none of us are sure how to determine the type of disk array on a particular box. What I am looking for is SC10/FC-60. I have ran ioscan and looked in SAM but no joy. From looking at the hardware it is a HP 2300 ?

(The server is an rp2470)

Many thanks in advance

Re: Disk array type

It says HP 2300 on the front of the unit? If that's the case, then you probably have a DS2300 disk unit. This is a JBOD unit.

There should be a sticker somewhere on the unit with its model # and serial #. What is the model #?

Re: Disk array type

The DS2300 is model A6490A (possibly followed by 1 or 2 more letters) or A6490E.

According to partsurfer.hp.com the full list of possible models is: A6490A, A6490AD, A6490ADR, A6490AE, A6490AER, A6490AR, A6490AV, A6490AVR, A6490AZ, A6490AZR, A6490ED, A6490EDR

Re: Disk array type

Hi Patrick

What does JBOD mean ? I can see that there are two disk arrays with 5 disks in each. I am trying to configure this box from scratch and have instructions on how to do so with an SC-10/FC-60/VA7400 so not sure where/how this DS2300 fits in to any of the above ?

Thanks a mil

Re: Disk array type

JBOD is short for Just (a) Bunch Of Disks.

In this case it stands for a disk drive enclosure (some call it a 'shelf') without an embedded RAID controller, but you can connect it to one.

Re: Disk array type

There is no setting up LUNs or anything with the DS2300. It is NOT a RAID box. Cable it up to your machine and run an ioscan. You should see all the disks in the unit.

From there just do a pvcreate on the disks and then create your VGs.
