EMS Warning messages related to FC channel
Hi admins,
Two nodes (N4000 boxes) cluster having single package connected to Storagetek disk array by Fiber channel. Disk array is connected through MIA (Media Interface adapter).
SERVER SIDE DISK ARRAY
FC HBA -----?? FC CABLE ---?? MIA ?? SP ?? DISKS
Alternate link is configured in all Volume groups for redundancy.
Problem is EMS is continuously logs Warning messages on Primary server.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jul 16 18:02:15 Krishna EMS [22787]: ---- EMS Event Notification ------ Value: "CRITICAL (5)" for Resource: "/storage/events/disks/default/0_4_0_0.8.0.255.0.0.1"
(Threshold:>= " 3") Execute the following command to obtain event details:/opt/resmon/bin/resdata -R 149368926 -r
/storage/events/disks/default/0_4_0_0.8.0.255.0.0.1 -n 14968847 ???a
Jul 17 08:00:48 Krishna EMS [22787]: ------ EMS Event Notification ------ Value: "CRITICAL (5)" for Resource: "/storage/events/disks/default/0_5_0_0.8.0.255.0.1.4"
(Threshold: >= " 3") Execute the following command to obtain event details: /opt/resmon/bin/resdata -R 1493368970 -r /storag
e/events/disks/default/0_5_0_0.8.0.255.0.1.4 -n 1493368851 -a
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same kind of warning is coming on primary links of all LUNS irrespective of the FC controller (HBA).
As a first step we replaced the MIA suspecting it was creating problem and then the FC Cable. But Still EMS warning in the log didn???t stop.
Is there any firmware issue on Fiber Channel controller model Tachyon A3740-60001 ??
Regards,
Manoj

Re: EMS Warning messages related to FC channel
Manoj,
You didn't mention what O/S you are running or if you are using this as a boot device. If you're running HP-UX 11.11, the A3740A HBA is NOT supported. Take a look through the text of the PHKL_26243 patch at

Re: EMS Warning messages related to FC channel
Some additional information would be helpful in terms of further assisting you with the FC events from EMS. What OS version are you running? What version of Support Tools Manager is Installed? You can get the following by : swlist -l fileset | grep -i ems Additionally a file /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log contains the event detail. Could you provide this information addiotionally? With the above list a more detailed look at the events can be done. Regards, Curtis Wheatley
