Adding drive enclosures in pair is recommended(one on Loop 1 and other on 2) and also supported configuration.
Ensure that you have Device loop switch as well, if not already.

Agree with above about HP support adding drives shelves in pairs (1 per loop) and not single shelves for a 5000.
However, early EVA5000's could go up to a 2C18D with NO switches which was a supported config - unless of course they changed there mind...

A looong time ago. A number of V1.0 5000s have been upgraded in the field with loop switches for free (even 2C6Ds), because the systems did not run stable and there were lots of problems with I/O modules.
