EVA 8000 5020 release notes

Anyone know where I can find 5.020 release notes? I am adding some FATA drives and want to make sure the firmware version is correct on the drives.

Re: EVA 8000 5020 release notes

I believe 5.020 was the official initial release of XCS. The release notes would have been packaged wit hthe EVA if anything.

You can probably go by the Release Notes for 5.031. If your drives are at that firmware, then you should be ok. Any considerations on going to 5.031?

Taken from the 5.030 firmware readme file...

Model # / Description / Previous Firmware / Updated Firmware / Current Firmware

ND2505823A / 250GB 1" FATA 10K RPM / HP01 / No / HP01

ND25058238 / 250GB 1" FATA 10K RPM / HP01 / Yes / HP02

I guess I can attach the whole file if you request it, or I can e-mail it to you.

Re: EVA 8000 5020 release notes

I installed them, but I haven't added them to a disk group yet. My current group has HP01 drives, but the new ones are HP02. Is it ok to mix firmware versions in the same disk group?

Does anyone know if 5020 supports HP02?

Re: EVA 8000 5020 release notes

Are the model numbers the same?

There are a couple of models.

If they are all the same model, then I would say you should probably update the older ones, though I do not think it is mandatory for them to work. Personally, I like everything to be as up-to-date as possible (and supported as well).

Re: EVA 8000 5020 release notes

Some time ago I have read a rather blank statement that newer disk drive firmware could be used on older VCS/XCS releases, but of course I don't have that article handy right now, sorry.

You can try these links:

depending on the phase of the moon you might find out that one link works, perhaps both or none at all :-(
No, I am not kidding - I have seen disk drive firmware being available and a few days later not being available and a few days later being available again.

Re: EVA 8000 5020 release notes

Hi Nathan,

If you add a new drive or a replacement drive that contains newer firmware code on the disk to EVA running old XCS or VCS code, the drive will be detected and will work. But the controller will report in the binary logs that a disk drive with a newer known firmware revision has been detected.
I would recommend to that controllers be upgraded from XCS 5020 as soon as possible. There is a lot of issue with 5.020 I would recommend that you go to XCS 5.100.

Re: EVA 8000 5020 release notes

Thanks all for the help!

I was able to add the disks to the disk group with no problems (so far!). Now I just have to schedule some down time for the XCS upgrade 5031.

Thanks again!
