EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

Hello!
I have EVA8000 with 2 enclosures and I need to add 2 new enclosures without loop switches.
I would like to know which is the procedure that I must follow to connect the new enclosures to the existing topology and which will be the new cable routing diagram.
Thank you in advance.

Re: EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

Each enclosure is connected to two loops, 1A and 1B. The loop starts on one controller, goes to box 1, then to box 2 and finishes on the onther controller.

To add two more enclosures you must connect it to both loops, opening one at a time. As long as you do not open both loops at the same time, the access to disks should not be affected.

Remember that you need to have at least 4 disks in each new enclosure, and it must be powered-on when connecting it.

Re: EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

This moment my topology doesn't have loops. Each I/O module of the enclosure connects directly to both controllers of the EVA. Do I have to change this topology and build loops?

Re: EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

Controller 1 -- Enclosure -- Controller 2 is a loop. There are two, A and B.

The way to connect without loop-switches is:

LOOP A: C1 - S1 - S2 - S3 - S4 - C2
LOOP B: C1 - S4 - S3 - S2 - S1 - C2

C is controller
S is disk shelf

Re: EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

Thanks, it worked.
The only issue that I have is a warning in Command View EVA.
On both controllers I have this warning:
"Operational State: Soft Diagnostic Failure"
In "Device Ports" tab in "Loop Pair 2" the "Operational State: Failed".

Re: EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

I've seen it a few times, but rebooting one of the controllers or both (one after the other to keep the hosts running) 'fixed' it.

Re: EVA 8000 upgrade (2C2D to 2C4D)

Tha's because the EVA8000 is designed to have 4 loops, 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B.
Usually disk shelves on loop 1 are below the controllers and disk shelves on loop 2 are above the controllers.
You should cable the EVA that way (with 2 enclosures it should be that way already), with 2 enclosures on loop 1 and 2 enclosures in loop 2.
If you leave any port disconnected you'll have that warning always on Command View and in the logs.
