EVA 8100 Operating System Type

Is it possible to change the Operating System Type of a host 'on the fly'? Or do I need to unpresent LUNs, change the setting, then present the LUNs back to the host?

thanking all replies in advance.

Re: EVA 8100 Operating System Type

AFAIR it is possible on the fly, but it depends on the OS what it will do then ...

what OS is it?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

They are Linux hosts. The OS Type was set to MS Windows originally.

Yes, you can correct the OS type on the fly. Prefer to do this after stopping the host IOs, to ensure unexpected disturbance during the change.

Re: EVA 8100 Operating System Type

thanks for the feedback.

HP Support told me this:

"Hi Brantley,
I do not see any article or document about the risks involved in doing it online. But when I check with few of my next levels also they confirmed that this is a big risk and it might work for a month , a year , a day depends on what host does and the worst part is that it will be very hard to troubleshoot if/when the host has an issue and path failover could break, clustering could break which make troubleshooting difficult in future."

however, I am not convinced that this is the case. I would like to get some additional feedback before requesting an outage to unpresent LUNs..
