Can you change disk group occupancy alarm and protection level online?
I need to increase occupancy alarm threshold from 90% to 95% and protection level from 2 to 1, since i ran out of space on DG. Any thing i need to worry about?

yes the protection level can be changed to the SINGLE online to free the DG disk space for the data. It can be the temporary solution to
increase the available DG free space...

The DG occupancy threshold is just the alarm setting. It can be change online too.

But after that you should plan to add at least 8 physical disks into the DG...

Hi,

Yes you can change the alarm level and protection level online.

You might want to schedule the change of protection level for a time that is quiet, as it will kick off a levelling operation.

The alarm level can be changed at any time without any issues - remember though that this is just a threshold alarm, it won't give you any extra space.

Don't cut your free space too short. The is a good discussion about this in the best practices white paper. This can be very important if you are doing Business Copy.
