EVA3000 and secure path

Hello All,
Does it mandatory to use Securepath with EVA3000?
Currently I have one EVA3000, one SAN switch and one server. I plugged server’s single HBA to port 3 of switch. Also port 1 goes to EVA’s controller A and port 2 goes to EVA’s controller B. All of the ports are located in one zone. I created a Vdisk on EVA and present it to my server. Unfortunately server does not detect the vdisk and I cannot use it.What is the problem? Please advice.

Re: EVA3000 and secure path

Secure Path is not mandatory and is OS dependent.
In your case, you must use multipath software (all HBA and controller ports in one zone).
But you don't have problem with multipath software - you can't see any vdisk.
Did you create host from command view?
Can you see all connected devices on FC switch?
What is your OS?

Re: EVA3000 and secure path

Yes,

I created host in command view and present the vdisk to the host. Also in SAN switch all the connections correct. Operating system is windows 2003.

Re: EVA3000 and secure path

Hasan:

WHich driver are you using? The latest 9.2.x.x driver? If so, try downgrading to the 9.0.2.xx driver. On several installations I have done recently, I have noticed the same or similar issue with the new driver. It allows yuou to see the Array to configure it, but not access your presented vdisks.

Re: EVA3000 and secure path

For Windows 2003 you need to use MPIO. I know that it comes standard with the enterprise edition, but I'm not sure of the others.

Re: EVA3000 and secure path

Jon:

When configuring an EVA3000 with Windows Server 2003, you can use either Secure Path OR MPIO. The only case where you would NEED to use MPIO is if the VCS on the EVA3K is 4.x.

MPIO is the name for the "functionality" that defines multi-path i/o. For ALL Windows OS's, you need to download the proper DSM for the storage array your are utilizing.

Hasan: Have you had any luck with your situation yet?

Re: EVA3000 and secure path

Hi Hasan,

Its may be problem with zoning. Why can't you try without zoning.

Pls remove the zoning cfgclear & cfgsave

Then check whether it is seeing the vdisks

Cheers
