EVA4000 2C2D + A7388A low performances...

I've got some low performances with EVA4K 2C2D when I copy some big files (about 4.4GB of data) between two volumes in the storage array.
I'm using robocopy to make these tests.

Here is the configuration and the results:
EVA4K 2C2D
Source Volume: Vraid5: 30GB unit K:
Target Volume: Vraid1: 30GB unit H:
Diskgroup: 16 x 72GB 15K FC drives;
W2K server + LP1050 (A7388A: driver version 5.5.20A9) + MPIO version 1 software;
HP SAN Switch 2/8 (2 Fabrics);

MPIO Policy Time Ransfer Rate
Round Robin 1:57 2.25GB/min
None 1:57 2.25GB/min
SQR 1:54 2.36GB/min
SQST 1:54 2.36GB/min

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Jacques

What is the purpose of this "test" ?
It is certainly not valid for measuring MB/s throughput !!

If you copy data within a disk group, you are causing lots of head movement.

My customer is looking for a very fast storage array to run some Oracle Databases. He wants to compare the EVA vs NetApp...

In that case, I think you need to test with Oracle, not ROBOCOPY.

Re: EVA4000 2C2D + A7388A low performances...

If you want to test disk performance you should use a benchmark tool like IOmeter from Intel.

you can simulate all type of access you want, ramdom to sequancial, read to Write, any size of blocks.

And remember one thing, The performance of an EVA depends moslty on the number of disk in the disk Group. The more you have, the best it works.

Have you checked the firmware version of your card for an eva4000

Jacques,

If you need realy fast storage consider about SolidStateDisk.

www.superssd.com

Once we install RAMSAN120 at one customer and time for calculation was droped from 10 hours to 46 minutes. We put only undotablespace on SSD disk, not entire Oracle database.
