Erase/Format Raid Drive
I was told to erase and or format a drive in my array. The process explained was to mark and remove all drives except the one I need to erase then erase and format it. How can I do this?
Thanks

Re: Erase/Format Raid Drive
Kenneth,
You need to provide more information before anyone can provide a solution.
We need to know:
OS version
Disk management software - LVM, VxVM?
RAID level - 0,1,5?
Without this information, no one can ansewer your question.
Regards,
Mark

Re: Erase/Format Raid Drive
My goal is to prepare this drive to be used as a hot spare in a raid 5 array. The drive was taken out of a different array on another machine and when I tried to use it, it failed because it had data from the previous array on it. I almost lost the array because of this.
Now-
I placed the drive in a spare server that I have. It is running NT server as OS. I go into Disk Administrator and I see one 8MB partition labeled as EISA Utilities and the rest of the drive is just free space.
Do I delete the partition and format the drive as NTFS? I'm not sure what if anything should be on the drive. I would like it to be as a new drive would be.
