Extend the capacity of RAID 1

Hi, I want to extend the capacity of the raid 1 of my server, I have a hp Smart Array 641 Controller with two HD (36GB) with two partitions : C (Operating System) and E (data). I want to extend the partition E.
I think add two new HD(36GB) and wait the controller do the job automatically.

Its posible do these without reboot the server.

Please help me.

Thanks.

Re: Extend the capacity of RAID 1

Hi,

If the disks are hot-swappable, you should be able to insert them without a need to reboot the server. Then you can create a RAID-1 logical drive using these disks from hp Smart Array configuration menu. Once this is done, the rest of the configuration needs to be done in OS side.

What windows OS is this disk going to be used? Once the OS recognises the new logical disk just created, you should be able to EXTEND E partition (wothout a reboot).

Re: Extend the capacity of RAID 1

Hi,

A better option will be to create another logical drive with two new disks & then dynamically extend your E drive to the new volume through windows disk manager. Controller will not do it at its own after inserting new disks.

You can use card utility for windows to achive this.
