FC1010D problem with two FC-AL loops
Second loop will only show discs when enclosures have IDs 2 and 3.
Am I doing something wrong ?

Re: FC1010D problem with two FC-AL loops
Here're some guidelines:
- within one enclosure rotary switch setting should be the same;
- each enclosure should have unique rotary switch setting (ID).
Please describe how are you trying to attach in details (better draw)

Re: FC1010D problem with two FC-AL loops
8/0;
8/4;
8/8;
8/12;
8/0 TO [P] ON Enc 1
8/4 TO [P] ON Enc 1
Enc 1 [E] to Enc 2 [P]
Enc 1 [E] to Enc 2 [P]
8/8 TO [P] ON Enc 3
8/12 TO [P] ON Enc 3
Enc 3 [E] to Enc 4 [P]
Enc 3 [E] to Enc 4 [P]
----------------------------------
Enc 1 : enclosure Ids : 0 / 0
Enc 2 : enclosure Ids : 1 / 1
The following doesn't work - devices not visible :
Enc 3 : enclosure Ids : 0 / 0
Enc 4 : enclosure Ids : 1 / 1
----------------------------------
Did work :
Enc 3 : enclosure Ids : 2 / 2
Enc 4 : enclosure Ids : 3 / 3
But starts numbering disks at
1.8, 1.9 etc
----------------------------------
Considered :
Enc 3 : enclosure Ids : 5 / 5
Enc 4 : enclosure Ids : 6 / 6
This leaves paths for future enclosures.
----------------------------------
Surely 8/0 8/4 is one loop
and 8/8 8/12 is another
It should be possible to use enclosure id on both loops.
Since an enclosure id cannot be used on both loops - total number of enclosures limited to 10.

Re: FC1010D problem with two FC-AL loops
ioscan
and then to create device files
insf -e
OR reboot server and these two operations will take place at boot time.
Generally these 2x2 enclosures are separated by connecting them to different HBAs, and they can not conflict. They will work as soon as within one loop enclosure IDs are unique.
Try all these above with enclosures connected as you wish, get 'ioscan -fn' from there and attach it to your next reply

Re: FC1010D problem with two FC-AL loops
Engineer replaced hsc card, backplane, and then hard error appeared on /dev/fcms1, although failing element had moved around before (perm one from fcms 1, 2, 3 and 4). So was intermittent h/w error(s).
