File Migration for OS WinNt4.0 Win2000

Hi,
i am looking for a tool than can migrate File from a LUN to a new LUN. I will transfer 2 TB from a old Storage to a new Storage. The Tool must copy the file permission and must be fast. The storages are in a fabric SAN. And the tool must run under NT and Win2000 !

Thx for the ideas !!

best regards

alexander

Microsoft recommends using scopy and permcopy utilities from NT resource kit for moving files and permissions. You can find more details on http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;q174273

Re: File Migration for OS WinNt4.0 Win2000

Hi Alexander,

I would propose HP OpenView OmniBack II which could run on Unix and NT ( Win 2000 ).

The interface is very intuitive and easy to use.

Sorry it's alittle bit late !

Re: File Migration for OS WinNt4.0 Win2000

Hi Magdi,

Can OmniBack II 4 copy from disk to disk ? My know is that is impossible. With backup on a tape and a restore it is possible. Because i will copy from lun to lun.

Thx

Alexander

Re: File Migration for OS WinNt4.0 Win2000

OmniBack is backup software not copy utility. It is possible to copy files using backup and restore to another LUN. Omniback can backup to file but the problem is file size. On NT maximum file size iz 4GB. If size of your backup is less then 4GB you can use this method. If you have more then 4GB to backup you have to define some kind of "partial backups" in less then 4GB increments, etc...

Re: File Migration for OS WinNt4.0 Win2000

Hi Alexander,

Of course yes you can copy from disk to disk.
Remember that in unix every thing is a file !

Please do the following :

1. Click on the "Device & Media" icon.
2. Menu Edit->Create->Standalone
3. Select from the liste of device type "File"
4. Give a Device Name
5. Description if you want.
6. Select a host name.
7. Select a Pool Name.

8. Filenames of Physical Devices : you can type the absolute file path and ADD.

9. You can select options if you want.

I tried this solution to do some backup on disks and it works.

Good luck and bye.
