Gen8 SFF SAS HDD & P2000 Series MSA Enclosures

Hi,

I understand that the Gen8 SFF SAS HDD drives are not compatible for use with the current P2000 Series MSA storage enclosures.

I wondered if anyone knew of any plans to introduce new enclosures that will take these drives.

Thanks.

I wonder about the reason for this question - because it looks so nice?

;-)

Hope this helps!

Re: Gen8 SFF SAS HDD & P2000 Series MSA Enclosures

I, too, have experienced this. I'm looking to build an SQL server to last a good 5 years, so wanted the latest when it comes to storage so it doesn't become a problem in a few years' time.

I was sent a D2700 with Gen8 drives by my supplier and it's an impossibility for the two to communicate, so despite going for a Gen8 server, it seems I have to use G6/G7 drives for storage.

I was hoping to get a new enclosure rather than downgrading all the drives, so an official response to the above question would be of great interest to me.

You can have for example 600GB 6G SAS disk drives in both, the Gen8 server and the P2000. Probably different models, same specs. Of course you should always use supported drives for a certain system. There are IMHO no "G6/G7/Gen8" drives, but drive types used in this server models.

Hope this helps!
