HDD replacement

We have a Compaq Proliant 1600 server running Windows NT4 Terminal Server Edition.
The storage system of this server constitutes by one smart array 221 controller and two Compaq Ultra 2 Wide SCSI HDD 9Gb in Raid 1.
After a power failure one of the HDD failed. Can you help me with the replacement/rebuild procedure?
I noticed that the Raid level has change from RAID 1 to RIAD 0. Is that normal?

Well this is a little unclear,
You say that one drive "failed" and if so the array would be listed as critical prompting you to replace the drive. But you say also that "the RAID level" changed. Where are you seeing this? It would seem that your RAID configuration has been lost, but how did the RAID 0 get there?
Anyway, the simple answer is to replace the drive if the RAID 1 was still configured and listed as critical. The array would then rebuild or you can force a rebuild once the drive is replaced.

and another 100 or more servers were identically built 3 years ago with RAID 1
We DO NOT know how it changed
to RAID 0 but that is what is
reported in both BIOS and the
Windows Compaq Array Configuration Utility.The issue at hand now is that the
utility asks to reformat BOTH
disks in order to configure
the array to RAID 1 and add
the previously failed disk
to the array. We do not want
that.We would like to know if
there is a way to reconfigure
the array and add the replacement without destroying the data on the working disk.
