I am new to the world of Server management, but I have a task to set up the HP StorageWorks EVA 4k.
My rack includes:
2,HP StorageWorks 4/8 SAN switches
1,HP StorageWorks Tape array 5300
2,HP Integrity rx2660
1,HP Proliant DL360 G5
2,HP StorageWorks HSV200 тАУA and
1,HP StorageWorks C8 146.8 GB
Until now, I was able to assign IP addresses to both my HP rx2660.
My objectives are:
1. See and manage the complete rack from one interface (all the components listed above).
2. Install new management software (NMS or EMS)
3. I used browser to access HP Command View EVA (using port 2372) from a machine connected on the same LAN switch. However, from a different location on the same network I am "unable" to start HP command View EVA but "able" to telnet the IP address.
Please help.
Thank you,
Mitali

Re: HP StorageWorks EVA 4K - Software management
Did you purchase installation services from HP? If you did, they will do some of the tasks for you (the EVA startup for example).
BTW, what is this:
HP StorageWorks C8 146.8 GB
What is "C8"?
I assume commandview EVA will run on that proliant - is it already installed, configured and licenced?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP StorageWorks EVA 4K - Software management
Actually it is HP StorageWorks 146.8GB 15k Fiber channel.
The commandview EVA is running and it is licenced.
Let me know if more input is needed.
Do u have the check list to commandview EVA access?
Thanks,
Mitali

Re: HP StorageWorks EVA 4K - Software management
are you sure you have not accidently re-used an IP-Address or there is another network problem?
Command View EVA runs on a Windows Server, but as far as I can tell, Windows servers usually don't have "telnet" enabled.
Or did you mean a "telnet" to the Windows server's port 2372?
Does the browser in the other location use a proxy server? Very often I see that this is a problem.

Re: HP StorageWorks EVA 4K - Software management
Is there any way I can find if Command View EVA is already running on any of my servers (EVA)?
I have configured IP address for the iLO 2 MP port of the HP rx2660 only. My telnet session was to this servers to use the MP menu.
I have the Command View EVA v7.0 software with me, please let me know how I can install it and use it to manage the HP StorageWorks 4100 EVA as a single unit.
---------------------------------------------
Assuming that HP command view EVA was already installed - I was trying to access it using https://rx2600-iLO-Port-IP:2372/
---------------------------------------------
Sorry for the confusion.

Re: HP StorageWorks EVA 4K - Software management
Is there any way I can find if Command View EVA is already running on any of my servers (EVA)?
>> Check under ControlPanel/Install-deinstall software for installation, and then check under services that HP CommandView service is running.
I have configured IP address for the iLO 2 MP port of the HP rx2660 only. My telnet session was to this servers to use the MP menu.
>> iLO IP is of NO use for CommandView access, you should have OS Network IP to access the CommandView.
I have the Command View EVA v7.0 software with me, please let me know how I can install it and use it to manage the HP StorageWorks 4100 EVA as a single unit.
>> It's a simple installation just like any other Microsoft software. Make sure the server has fiber channel HBAs installed, they are connected to SAN Switch and subsequently SAN Switch is connected to EVA. Also, SAN Switch should have proper zoning for the server to see the EVA.
---------------------------------------------
Assuming that HP command view EVA was already installed - I was trying to access it using https://rx2600-iLO-Port-IP:2372/
>> This is wrong, you can't use iLO port IP address to access the CommandView. As suggested, use https://Windows-Network-IP:2372/Command_View_EVA
Hope that helps.

Re: HP StorageWorks EVA 4K - Software management
There was a beep sound from the lower part rack and I guess the sound was from the HDD 146.8GB fiber channel array. I had to switch off the power to the rack to stop the sound.
I was trying to reach the HP support - but failed.
I want to switch on the rack again now and current my understanding is:
1. Start and configure the SAN Switch with EZSwitchSetup. (assign IP)
2. Start the HP rx2660 servers and assign IP to the iLO2MP.
3. Start the HP Proliant DL360 G5 and assign IP address. (Access CommandView at port 2372).
Q1. How do I connect the Tape Array to the SAN network?
Q2. How do I connect the HDD to the SAN Network?
Q3. Can anyone suggest the sequence in which I should installation/configure the components?
Q4. Do I need to make the connections (Tape/HDD) before powering on the rack?
FYI: The complete rack is wired except for the tape array and the HDD array.
Awaiting reply.
Thanks,
Mitali
