HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

Hopefully a simple question.

I zoned an rp4440 running 11i to an EVA6000. There are a number of LUN's presented to the server now but ioscan and insf do not create the necessary disk files. HP-UX can see the EVA devices. Any ideas?

FYI: here's the detailed sequence.
1) install latest quality pack, hw bundle and several patches as pre-req's for SecurePath
2) reboot
3) attach fibre cables to san switches, zone eva and rp4440
4) reboot
5) create luns on EVA and assign to rp4440
6) ioscan
7) insf -e
...
No disks. Check with ioscan -f|grep HSV:

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

When you added the hpux host to the eva, are you sure you set the OS to HPUX?

Ususally you do not see all these HSV200 device files. If the OS is set to 'HPUX' and the ports have the correct WWNs configured for the HPUX HBAs (port WWN) I would reboot the HPUX server.

It seems to have discovered the EVA using the wrong addressing mode.

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

Good point but I did set the host type to "Hewlett Packard HP-UX" when I created the host. Is there anything else I could check? It may be a missing driver or something but I have no idea where to look.

Thanks in advance.

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

And you verified that the WWNs listed for the host in the EVA are correct?

Have you rebooted the HPUX server after configuring it into the eva?

With secure path the drivers should be listed as HSX not ctl. What do you get with an ioscan -fn instead of just the -f?

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

Yes. The rp4440 was rebooted after the SAN zoning and no it has not been rebooted once the EVA saw it in the fabric.

Should it be booted again?

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

Hi,

WWN or port zoning?
Are you sure about the EVA presentation?
Better check it again.
There should be no problem with this.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

I would boot it again. I've seen HPUX get confused when it discovers an array that hasn't yet been completely set up for its use.

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

While I agree with Torsten, I fear that you are right... Everything looks OK but I never did reboot the server once the EVA could see it for the first time.

Oh well, there go the SLA's!

Thanks chaps.

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

1) Have you ever been able to see any SAN storage?
2) What kind of activity are you seeing on the port on the brocade and the HBA?
3) What do you see when you run;

# fcmsutil /dev/td0 (might be td1, td2, etc...)

Re: HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

Hi

1) Have you ever been able to see any SAN storage?

Yes but this is a new node on the SAN.

2) What kind of activity are you seeing on the port on the brocade and the HBA?

No activity on that port.

3) What do you see when you run;

# fcmsutil /dev/td0 (might be td1, td2, etc...)

root@spf /root # fcmsutil /dev/fcd0
