Has anyone successfully run the above configuration WITHOUT Secure Path 3.0F but using PVlinks instead?
Thanks,

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 with EVA3000/5000 VCS 4.0x
PvLinks won't work with EVA3/5K as its controllers are working in active and passive mode. The LUN is visible only by one controller, When path failover is required SecurePath tells controllrs to take over the Luns. So, the controller failover is not built into the array itself, but into the SecurePath. so we need SecurePath software to switch to both conts.
But with EVA4000/6000/8000, controllers present all LUNs and controller failover is auto so SecurePath is no reqd.

SolutionEva 3000/5000 with vcs 4.0x works with pvlinks ,as this vcs version makes EVA Controller in Active /Active mode .
securepath 3.0f has two components
1. securepath for active /passive
2. securepath for active/active ( aka autopath )
by using securepath 3.0f with vcs version 4.0x one can achieve LOAD BALANCING with pvlinks, which is not achieved if u dont use securepath.
one of the enhancements of vcs 4.0x is changing Eva 3000/5000 to Active/Active controller ( like Eva 4000/6000/8000).
Regards,
Aliasgar.

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 with EVA3000/5000 VCS 4.0x
Albert has asked for VCS V4 which does provide Active/Active controllers - in that case PVlinks is supported.

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 with EVA3000/5000 VCS 4.0x
EVA VCS 4.0X essentially makes older EVA 3K/5K behave (active-active) like the newer EVA4,6,8K - and that it now supports "industry" standard pathing/failover solutions like PVLINKS, AP, VxVM DMP and MPIO(?)?
It does away with the SecurePath (aka active/passive mp) software (spmgr...) that used to be required for highly available EVA implementations.

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 with EVA3000/5000 VCS 4.0x
Secure Path is definitely to be avoided on the EVA's!!
