Help finding a 12H replacement

Help finding a 12H replacement

We have phased out an old N Class system and replaced it with an HP RP3440 running a PA-RISC chipset with HPUX as the OS...

We are looking for an inexpensive storage solution like a DAS or a NAS that supports a failover controller like the 12H... Supports HPUX and Windows 2003 (not at the same time)

Eventually we may be phasing out HPUX with Windows for cost reasons... And the hardware needs to support windows...

Thanks

Re: Help finding a 12H replacement

Perhaps you may use a MSA30 MI and use LVM mirroring, this should satisfy your needs.

Hope this helps!

Re: Help finding a 12H replacement

Caution: The MSA30MI is only supported with HP-UX!

So, the smallest array supporting either Windows or HP-UX is the MSA1000 or MSA1500.
For Windows they support dual controller with failover and multipathing
For HP-UX they currently only support single controller, single path. The new firmware for the MSA1500 that enables dual controller with failover and multipathing for HP-UX is currently in the final testing and expected 1H06.
For the MSA1500 see: http://www.compaq.com/products/quickspecs/11945_div/11945_div.HTML

The next array would be the EVA4000 supporting HP-UX and Windows concurrently.
For the EVA Family see : http://www.compaq.com/products/quickspecs/12408_div/12408_div.HTML

Re: Help finding a 12H replacement

For HP Solutions -- MSA1000 or MSA1500 wil be your best bet.

For non-HP solutions, there are a lot out there.

Re: Help finding a 12H replacement

So for some odd reason, HP doesn't really have something equivalent to the 12H...

We have been looking at the MSA30MI, MSA1000 and MSA1500 and the hardware failover if a controller dies doesn't exist for their on HPUX system...

And the MSA30MI being only for HPUX, we had to throw that out of the mix...

Since we are wanting to stay low cost, any EVAs are not in the running...

Does anyone have any idea on what we can do for failover possibilities?

Re: Help finding a 12H replacement

The MSA30 is just a disk enclosure, so you would need some sort of hardware raid (Smart Array 6400 series) or LVM mirroring (Mirrordisk or VeritasVM on HP-UX). If you were to go to Windows, then you would use the built-in software RAID or a RAID card like the Smart Array 6400 series.

The MSA1000 is fairly inexpensive, and should be pretty close to what you are looking for. It does support windows and HP-UX.
